Finally…a snowshoe

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Between all my travels this fall and Mark’s class and homework, we haven’t made it into the woods nearly as much as I would have liked. So, when we found ourselves with a sunny day, fresh snow in the mountains, and without homework, we packed ourselves into the car and got the h*&ll out of dodge. The snow was perfect and armed with our “new” boots and gloves from the Fresenius gang, the Bine stayed warm. I think Kuja had the most fun, but I came in a very close second. All in all it was a fabulous day.

Nice afternoon

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

It was a great afternoon for a bike ride and to play in Bitter Lake with the Bine.

Mailbox Peak

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Last weekend Courtney and Arthur were in town for a visit. They’ve been stuck in flat Michigan for too long (their words, not mine) and so I knew they wanted to go hiking and see some beautiful views. Given their complaints about the flatness of Michigan, I thought taking them to the heights of the Cascades would be a good idea…which lead us to Mailbox Peak. Although I’ve wanted to do it for awhile, we’d never made it there. I knew it was going to be a butt kicker but since Saturday was a gloriously sunny day, I thought the views would be worth it.

Unfortunately Mark wasn’t feeling 100% still, so only Kuja, Sabine, Courtney and Arthur and I went. Butt kicker it was….4,100 vertical feet in 3 miles. Thankfully Mark and I have either snowshoed or hiked almost every weekend since the new year, so amazingly I made it all the way to the top with the Bine on my back. Thankfully Arthur took her on the way back down. At the top we could see Mt. Rainier, Seattle, the Olympic Mountains, Mt. Baker and pretty anything else around since we were above it all.

It was a great day and all worth it despite the fact that we’re still having trouble going up and down stairs normally.

Doctor Week

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Well this week it’s been “Doctor Week”. Both of our “children” made a trip to their respective doctors. Kuja went in yesterday to get fixed, spent the night at the vet’s office and Bebeth went and picked her up this afternoon, with the instructions “Make sure she stays calm.” A puppy calm, are you serious? She now has a cone attached to her head, which seems to get caught on things, especially all the baby gates …

Sabine made her 9 month visit to the Doctor. No she didn’t get fixed. Though she did get weighed and now weighs a whopping 16lbs 5oz. and comes to a towering height of 27 inches. Her head is in the 90th percentile and her weight puts her in the 10th percentile. She is now officially a bobble head doll. She also go the ok to eat pretty much anything. Below was our first attempt at feeding her pasta, she didn’t really seem to be a fan.

These day’s she is crawling around a lot, and even free standing for 3 or 4 seconds on her own. She has also figured out how to climb our stairs … time for more baby gates. Over the last few weeks she’s started dancing. It’s more like wobbling her head back and forth, but she loves doing it. If I start playing the guitar or we turn some music on the radio she’ll often start dancing.

Wet Weekend

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

In an effort to tire out our youngest member of the family (Kuja), we decided to take a short hike out at Tiger Mountain. Mist turned to rain, and it ended up being quite the wet walk. But thanks to gortex we all had a great morning. Even The Bine didn’t mind a little wet weather.

Sabine the blond

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Mikaela and I decided to see what Sabine might look like if she had blond hair … I think we”ll skip bleaching it … for now.

Soccer

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Today the we went to our first Seattle Sounder’s game. (That’s soccer for those who don’t know who the Seattle Sounders are). It was a glorious day. We all met up on Capital Hill at Jessica and Jack’s house. Then we all took the bus down to Pioneer square and walked the rest of the way to Quest Stadium. The stadium was packed! Supposedly a new record for the Sounders. Great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon: friends, soccer, beer, and foot long hot dogs.

Baby Mohawk

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

During bath time, we gave the Bine a baby mohawk. I think the next style should be shaved head, but no one seems to agree with me …

Denny Creek/Franklin Falls Hike

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

The Bine, Flap, Bebeth, and I went on a hike today. We first started out trying to do Denny Creek, but after a couple of miles we came to a spot in the trail where the trail was washed out. Nobody was to enthused about tossing the Bine across, so we turned around. The second mini-hike we did was up to Franklin Falls and then we ended the day with beer and hot wings … mmmm.  For more pictures check out: http://www.steudel.org/pictures/thumbnails.php?album=77IMG_9121

First Canoe Ride

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Unfortunately we forgot our camera, but Sabine went for her first paddle. (It might’ve been our first this year too! Yikes!). It was such a nice day on Saturday that we were going to meet up with Teddy and LIsa on the mud flats but logistics and timing didn’t end up working out. With the boat already on the car we thought what a waste, where could we go … so we drove over the UW aquatic center and put in, Dorothy and Troy were going to go with us, but the wait for a boat ended being an hour and a half, so we ended paddling just by our Steudel threesome. I’m not sure Sabine really appreciated the fact that we were dodging power boats and sail boats, or that it was her first time on the water, or the cute baby ducks, or the hoards of college kds draped over any flat surface in the sun, or the hoards of canoists and kayakers, as she pretty much just slept the whole time. But great fun was had by all … thought probably mostly by mom and dad. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
