This update on the ride is a little old, but didn’t want to post it online till now (my appologies for those of you who are getting this twice…)

Yes, this is the final ride update for the year…so please read all of it. It’ll be worth it. Just to give you some incentive, I’ve created a quick table of contents:

1. Good news.
2. Good news.
3. Better than expected news.
4. Good news.

How bad could that be?

The first item of good news (and arguably the best news given the purpose of the ride) is the fact that with much support, I raised $5,900! That put me in the top 20 fund raisers out of 2,000 riders! The money is going to a great cause and will help support both research as well as some amazing local programs.

The second piece of news is that my dad decided to fly out and join me for the ride. He rode 58 miles on Saturday and 50 miles on Sunday…definitely a personal best! We had a great time riding with over 2000 people including my friends Jessica and Jack and Mark’s parents. There were people of all ages (12+), with bikes of all kinds (road, mountain, recumbent, unicycle, and hand cycles), and lots of great camaraderie!

The better than expected news is that I rode 82 miles on Saturday and 75 miles on Sunday for a total of 152 miles. A little less than I had planned…so why better than expected? That would be news item number 4.

The final good news is that Mark and I are going to be welcoming the newest addition to the Schenk-Steudel family next March. Yes, that means that I’m pregnant! While riding 175 miles was fine with my doctor, I lost most of August’s training to feeling sick. So, at 13 weeks, I still think 150 miles isn’t half bad

Overall the weekend was a great success. I had a really good time, learned a lot more about our local chapter of the MS Society, and it was amazing to cross the finish line with Uncle Ray waiting for me! Getting involved with the MS Society has been a great experience and I definitely plan on making the ride an annual activity. Hopefully I’ll be starting a team with Jessica and Jack and we’ll want you to ride with us!

While Teddy and Lisa were off on a fun biking trip, Mikaela and Terese (our niece’s through Mark’s brother) came to stay with us. The weekend was filled with cooking and eating lots of good food, laughing at strange waitresses (one felt the need to call water “wawa” to Terese who is 9 years old!) and lots of great photo opportunities.

Saturday night found us making home-made pumpkin ravioli. All 4 of us were involved and the results were quite good.

After such a yummy dinner, what’s the best thing to do? Make armpit farts! Too bad Courtney wasn’t here to help us with the real thing!

Today we got up and went down to the Olympic Sculpture Park. Its completion happened while we were away in Kenya and Mark and I hadn’t had the opportunity to go yet. Its right on the Seattle harbor with great views. I’m not sure how we decided to do this, but we ended up doing interpretive poses of many of the statues. Below are a few of our favorites.

On July 30th Mark and I headed up to Vancouver Island to the town of Coombs for the Coombs Bluegrass Festival. They played three times over two days and got a great reception from the audience. Their Friday night performance was one of the best I’ve ever seen them have. Unlike the band, I didn’t have to rehearse, so I got to see some other really amazing bands. Below are a few shots from the weekend.

Robin (extremely talented fiddle player who joined them for the weekend), Mark Steudel, Mike Karbowski, Mark Meyers, Dave Grout, Pete Thorn, Ken (Banjo played filling in for Greg)

We’ve been wondering what to put on the homepage of our web site for a while now. We have a blog, we have a gallery … So a while back we thought, it’d be cool if you just see a bunch of random images from our gallery, so we wrote a little program that grabs a bunch of images from our gallery and continually randomizes them on our front page. You can click on them and enlarge them. Anyway we finally got it done and put it up. Check it out. It’s not perfect, but we think it’s fun.

Recently we decided that we needed to update our point-and-shoot camera. We’ve always had a water-resistant one because we do so much in the water and *someone * has a bad habit of dropping electronics out of their float tube! Our friend Kaj had written about his waterproof camera, so we decided to go this route. Its not much more expensive and you can do lots of cool (albeit possibly useless) things with it….as evidenced below. We may look dorky, but we’re having tons of fun!
